For years, saving videos on an iPhone meant installing some sketchy app or screen-recording and trimming the result. That changed when Apple gave Safari a proper download manager in iOS 13. Today you can save a Reel in full quality, with its sound, in about twenty seconds – no app required.
Step by step
-
1
Copy the Reel link
Open the Reel in Instagram, tap the paper-plane icon and choose “Copy link”.
-
2
Open insta4dl in Safari
Go to insta4dl.com and tap the Paste button. The Reel loads on its own.
-
3
Tap “Download video”
Safari asks whether you want to download the file – tap Download. A small arrow appears next to the address bar.
-
4
Find the file
Tap that arrow and then the file, or open the Files app and go to Downloads.
-
5
Move it to Photos
With the video open, tap the share icon and choose “Save Video”. It now sits in your camera roll.
Where does Safari put the video?
By default Safari saves downloads to iCloud Drive › Downloads, which is why the video doesn’t show up in Photos straight away. If you’d rather keep downloads on the phone itself, go to Settings › Apps › Safari › Downloads and choose “On My iPhone”. On older iOS versions the Safari settings are directly in the main Settings list.
Make it a one-tap habit
If you save Reels often, add insta4dl to your Home Screen: in Safari tap the share icon, scroll down and pick “Add to Home Screen”. It opens full-screen like an app, and the Paste button saves you a step every time.
Using Chrome or another browser on iPhone
Chrome, Firefox and Edge on iOS can download files too, but each keeps them in its own place. In Chrome, when the download finishes, tap “Open in…” and then “Save Video”. If you can’t find a file later, the Files app usually has it under the browser’s own folder.
If nothing happens when you tap Download
- Check your iOS version. Downloads in Safari need iOS 13 or newer (Settings › General › About).
- Turn off content blockers for the site. Tap the “aA” icon in the address bar, then Website Settings, and switch content blockers off for insta4dl.
- Look for a “Post not found” message. That means the Reel is private, deleted or age-restricted – only public Reels can be saved.
- Low storage. iOS silently cancels downloads when the phone is almost full.
A note on reposting
Having the file doesn’t mean you can publish it as your own. If you want to share someone’s Reel, Instagram’s built-in repost and story-sharing options keep the creator credited. Our guide on reposting with credit covers the options.
