Stories are built to disappear after 24 hours, which is exactly why people want to keep some of them: a recipe, an event announcement, a tutorial. This guide covers stories from public accounts, highlights, and the easiest way to save your own.
Step by step
-
1
Open the Story downloader
Go to the Story tab on insta4dl.
-
2
Enter the username
Type the account’s username (with or without @) and press Download.
-
3
Pick the story
Every active story appears in order, labelled with how long ago it was posted.
-
4
Download
Save single stories, or use “Download all as ZIP”.
Highlights work the same way
Highlights are stories the owner pinned to their profile, so they don’t expire. Open the Highlights downloader, enter the username and tap a highlight circle to see its stories.
Downloading one specific story
If someone sent you a link to a story (it looks like instagram.com/stories/username/…), paste it in – insta4dl shows just that story instead of the whole set.
Saving your own stories
For your own content, Instagram has you covered without any outside tool:
- While the story is live: open it, tap ⋯ (More) and choose Save.
- After it expired: stories go to your Archive automatically if the archive setting is on. Open your profile, tap the menu (≡) › Archive, and switch to Stories archive.
- Everything at once: export your account data – see how to download all your Instagram data.
Good to know
- Only public accounts work. Stories from private accounts can’t be downloaded.
- Music stickers are part of the video, so the sound comes with it.
- Polls, questions and link stickers are saved as they appear on screen – they’re not interactive in the file.
- “Close Friends” stories are private by design and never available.
