Nearly everything you might want to share, save or download on Instagram starts with its link. The button is always there, but it sits in a slightly different place depending on what you’re looking at. Here’s where to find it.
Posts and carousels
Tap the paper-plane icon under the post and choose Copy link. You can also tap ⋯ in the top-right corner of the post – the share options are there too. A post link looks like instagram.com/p/ABC123xyz/.
Reels
While the Reel is playing, tap the paper-plane icon on the right side, then Copy link. Reel links look like instagram.com/reel/ABC123xyz/.
Stories
Open the story, tap the paper-plane or ⋯ icon and look for Copy link. The option only exists for public accounts; if you don’t see it, the account is private or has limited sharing. Story links look like instagram.com/stories/username/1234567890/.
Highlights
Open the highlight from the profile, tap ⋯ and choose Copy link. Highlight links come in two forms: instagram.com/stories/highlights/1789…/ or a short instagram.com/s/… link. Both work in insta4dl.
Profiles
On the profile, tap ⋯ in the top-right corner and choose Copy profile URL, or tap Share profile and then Copy link. A profile link is simply instagram.com/username/. For most insta4dl tools the username alone is enough.
On a computer
On instagram.com every post, Reel and profile has its own address – just copy it from the browser’s address bar. Clicking ⋯ on a post also offers “Copy link”.
What about “share” links?
Newer versions of the app sometimes produce links like instagram.com/share/reel/…. They redirect to the normal link and work fine with insta4dl. Tracking bits at the end (such as ?igsh=…) can be left in or removed – they don’t change which post the link points to.
Tip: if a link doesn’t work, open it in a private browser window while logged out. If Instagram shows a login wall or “Sorry, this page isn’t available”, the content is private or gone.
