Heard a sound you want to use in your own Reel, or just want to know what the song is? Instagram has good tools for both, and they don’t require downloading anything.
Step by step
-
1
Open the audio page
At the bottom of the Reel, tap the scrolling audio name. A page with every Reel using that sound opens.
-
2
Save the audio
Tap “Save audio” (the bookmark icon). It’s stored in your Saved list under Audio.
-
3
Use it later
When creating a Reel, tap the music icon and open the Saved tab – or tap “Use audio” on the audio page.
Finding the name of a song
If the Reel uses a track from Instagram’s music library, the song title and artist scroll along the bottom of the Reel. Tap it to see the song page, and use the links there to open it in a streaming app where available.
If it says “Original audio”, the creator recorded the sound themselves or added music outside Instagram. In that case:
- Read the caption and comments – people often ask, and creators often answer.
- Play the Reel next to a music-recognition app such as Shazam or the Google search bar’s “Search a song” feature.
Why some sounds can’t be used
Business and creator accounts can only use sounds that are cleared for commercial use, so some popular tracks don’t appear for them. Music availability also differs between countries.
Keeping the full Reel
Saving audio only keeps the sound inside Instagram. If you need the whole video with its soundtrack on your device – for example to watch offline – download the Reel as an MP4. The original audio is included.
Reusing music outside Instagram is a different matter: most songs are licensed for use on the platform only. Uploading a downloaded Reel with its music to another site may get it muted or removed.
